Beauty tip of the day!

If you wake up late and don't have time to wash your hair (& don't happen to have any dry shampoo laying around) baby powder works just fine! I've been using it for years. Just sprinkle some on your roots (using a blush brush or just your fingers works fine) leave on for a few seconds and then brush and fluff your hair and roots thoroughly to get rid of any excess powder.

If you don't have any baby powder.. use some corn starch! Works just as well ;)

Monthly beauty box subscriptions

Hey Everyone!

In the past year, monthly beauty subscription boxes have become super popular! I'm pretty sure it's a recently new idea because I never heard about until a few months ago, and I'm the only person out of all the people I've told about who had heard of it. There are few different options of boxes to subscribe to. In Canada I only know about 3: Glymm box-Glymm.com (which I subscribe to), Topbox-topbox.com (which currently cannot be signed up for because they are at capacity, lame!) and Luxe box-loosebutton.com (also at capacity, with a waiting list). These boxes are about $10-$12 a month and you get 4-5 deluxe sized products. The website for these boxes can be a bit deceiving as they show pictures of all the top brands such as Nars and Benefit, though such products are rarely in the boxes! While it's rare to get amazing products from Nars and other high end makeup brands, you still get numerous other fun products. If you want to see example of each box just go on you tube and search for them by name, and there are plenty of videos that will show exactly what comes in each box. 

Lets face it, we all love getting mail, right? I know that I find it super exciting to get a package in the mail each month with new fun beauty products to try! In the Glymm box that I have a subscription to there are generally lots of creams and lotions, but you always get some sort of makeup item and usually something for your hair as well. The variety is great, and it lets you try out products you would probably never just buy without trying it! Some of the samples you get are from extremely expensive products that you would definitely want to test out before investing in so that's definitely an upside. One of the great things about it is that you generally always get at least one full-sized product in each box and sometimes even two! When you pay $10 a month, you always get wayyy more than $10 worth in each box, so it's definitely a great deal! Some months are kind of a disappointment, but I find that there is usually at least one product each month that I can get excited about and for me that makes it worth it!

Here are a few of the more exciting things that I have received in a Glymm box: All these items were mostly in different boxes and each item is close to $10 or more, I'll post the prices for things that i can remember

So as you can see some of the items that come in the box are pretty exciting, and you can also see from some of these products that you get far more than $10 worth from each box. I plan to continues to subscribe to this box for a while! And I'll start posting monthly on what I get each month!

Beauty tip of the day

I'm sure by now most of you have heard that olive oil can be used for hair treatments.. but there are so many other great things you can use it for as well!

Here's a list of things you can use plain old kitchen Olive Oil for:

1) Hair Treatments: Rubbing olive oil in your hair can help keep it healthy and shiny. I usually just rub it on the ends of my hair to help prevent split ends and to keep it from drying out. Most people use it all over their hair and massage it in especially in the roots and tips. You should leave it in you're hair for about 15-20mins. Wrapping a warm towel around your head can help you get the full effect. Some people also recommend wrapping saran wrap around your hair to keep the oil in. It may take a few shampooings to get it all out, but it's definitely worth it.

2) Face Wash/Makeup Remover: I love using olive oil as a face wash/makeup remover. I don't use it every day because I find your skin can get a bit oily (especially if you've got oily skin naturally.) I use it a couple of times a week in the shower or just around my eyes to get my eye shadow off. It's great in the winter when your skin gets especially dry. Make sure you massage it in all over your face (or where you're trying to remove makeup) and wash off with a warm, damp cloth.

3)  Shaving Cream: Olive oil is a great substitute for shaving cream! Just rub it all over your legs, shave, and then wash off with warm water or a warm, damp cloth. It leaves your legs feeling moisturized and very smooth.

Twistbands

Hey everyone!

Have you heard of Twistbands? I stumbled upon their website while looking for fun Christmas presents to buy last Christmas (2011). I can't remember why, but i didn't end up buying any at that time. They kept crossing my mind for months after. To tell the truth I couldn't figure out why I kept thinking about them because they weren't really that exciting to me, but I would visit their webpage occasionally to look at them again. I realized that while they weren't exactly this amazingly exciting or interesting product, they were super cute! So what are these Twistbands? Well they are hair elastics! Yup, like I said not very exciting! But going back to their webpage numerous times I decided it was time to just give in and order some! I thought hey, while i'm ordering and paying shipping (only $3.95. but hey still counts!), I might as well order a bunch! So i ended up ordering about 18 of them! There are so many cute colours (even tie-dyed ones! super cool!) and I couldn't decide which ones to get! So I ended up narrowing it down to 11 for me and few for a couple of my friends to try out! Twistbands are great because they come in soooo many colours, they look cute on your wrist, and they don't leave indents in your hair. One of the biggest benefits of using a Twistband is that they are gentle on your hair; they don't pull at your hair and cause as much breakage or split ends. Awesome! So here are the ones that I got for myself!

 Neon is always cool for summer. Love the brightness of them!

 These colours are very on trend for this spring and summer! If you've noticed, orange/tangerine is very popular this season so that's why I ordered a bright orange and the peachy one beside it. Lilac and mint green always seem to be popular colours for spring and summer so I thought those would be great too!

The great thing about Twistbands is that they look a lot cuter on your wrist than regular hair elastics. They look on their own or layered up with other twistbands or whatever bracelets you happen to be wearing. One of the great things about them is that they aren't tight on your wrist like other elastics, They don't cut off circulation of leave indents in your skin.
